Welcome
Meet Cara
I am obsessed by color. I am a sucker for the drama of striking light. I keep being drawn to the lush fullness of fruit. I’m soothed by looking at flowers. I think food can be as beautiful as anything else. I want only the simplicity of watercolor – painting pure pigment on cotton paper. I love to make these paintings.

Watercolor Conversations
For four years I faithfully wrote weekly journal entries for my blog. Now and then I go back to what I’ve written and think that some of this huge body of content could be given new life – but the impulse was to use my speaking voice this go-round.
Watercolor Conversations with Cara Brown is the result. I am re-visiting some of these journal entries – sharing the stories, seeking, and inspiration in my written words – along with whatever else occurs to me to say at this point in time.

2008 – Southside Lily Pond – beginning stages
Started at the top, painting water and rocks, reflections of greenery around. I remember tiring of the colors (I gotta have my bright color!) and starting in on Apricots in the Sun before finishing this one. It was a treat to put the lavender flowers in at the end.
2008 – Fruit Tart – arghhhhh, those highlights!
I painted this painting in 10 concentrated days. I wanted to have it finished to enter in my first California State Fair. And I was totally vexed by painting the highlights on the apricots and strawberries. I hated how it looked. This is after I rubbed some of it out....
2008 – Grace – painting in some roses
I finished this one back at home. I remember painting the last rose, on the left - the hot pink one (it's an Yves Piaget) while watching/listening to the Academy Awards. I know where and when I painted each of these paintings.
